Meet Dulcie
The first business that I set up in 2012 after leaving over 20 years of very happy and varied Corporate life was a coaching business, Profitably Engaged.
When people ask me today how I then got into training, writing books, being on the radio and hosting conferences that I can honestly say it is because I listened to feedback from people I liked and respected.
Coaching clients would often ask me if I could train their teams on the science and research models I had used to help them. I used to say “I don’t do training…” until I realised that wasn’t any reason why I couldn’t! As a result, I set up Tea Break Training in 2016.
Over time, as I trained teams of people, clients would often ask for book recommendations or say “You should write this all down…” My clients therefore gave me the idea for my next business – Top Right Thinking – I wrote a number of blogs on the practical applications of the psychology and neuroscience that I knew my clients had found invaluable.
It’s Not Bloody Rocket Science
When clients read the blogs, some said “You should turn this into a book…” So I did! Starting to turn them into a book was easy…finishing the first book (and learning not to start every sentence with And, But or So was really hard!) It’s Not Bloody Rocket Science was a labour of love and took almost 5 years to complete.
Releasing the book led to my being asked to present those ideas at conferences or round table events and I was invited to speak on the radio about the ideas. Next for me is to see if I can help young people who are still at school to learn about the things that can them fulfil their potential, without sacrificing personal happiness (With 5 teenagers, I want to get in there early!)
My mission is to make all the amazing research and science that is already out there really accessible, so that it is easy to understand and use – for everyone. I work on the principle that “People are People”. Every CEO started life as a child. Your most impressive boss had a first day at work where they knew nothing. The super-successful entrepreneurs you know had no clients and no product once upon a time. Wherever we end up, we all still human beings, navigating the same evolved brain wiring in ourselves and other people. All we can do is learn from each day – from our mistakes and the feedback that we receive from others and ourselves.
My business evolved because I loved responding to the ideas from my clients and friends about what I could do next. Those people who used to tell me “you won’t succeed without a clear plan Dulcie” weren’t quite right. Instead when you read the book, I hope that you will sense that my advice on building your best life is based on the following 3 principles:
* Find something you love and become really good at it
* You have infinite capacity to do more and be more, so never stop listening and learning
* Replace “I can’t because…” in your life with “How could I…?”
I hope you will find my books are a good step in the right direction to help you and the people around you to identify why what you love, to listen and learn more effectively and to ask better questions that make anything possible. Who knows what is next? I’m not sure. But I know almost anything is possible.
I would love your feedback or your stories about how knowing the science about how we think and behave has helped you. Please feel free to contact me via the website or to leave a review on Amazon with your thoughts or ideas. I’m definitely listening…!
